Google launched its refreshed Publisher Center interface in 2019 to allow publishers greater control over how and where Google News displays their content.
First and foremost, and this is something that Google itself has stressed1, publishers should understand that submitting content to Publisher Center does not guarantee that it will either surface or rank in Google News.
What it does do is allow publishers to influence the user experience with said content once it has surfaced in Google News.
The interface grants control over content, branding and monetization opportunities. It also grants access to Google News Showcase within the Google News app’s Newsstand tab and enables tracking of referral traffic from news.google.com.
Fully understanding both Google Publisher Center’s capabilities and limitations, as well as how to set it up, is essential to being able to get the most from the tool.
